Marketing SMS messages are used for promotion and customer engagement and are sent to a selected segment of the customer database. SMS messages containing OTP include a one-time code for identity verification or two-factor authentication. These are individual messages with a short code validity period.

A standard SMS using GSM-7 encoding holds 160 characters. Characters outside this alphabet, such as most emoji, change the encoding to UCS-2 and reduce the limit to 70 characters.

Customers who have been inactive for 30, 60 and 90 days are offered increasingly strong incentives: a gentle reminder on day 30, a more substantial offer on day 60 and the strongest offer on day 90 — before considering the customer lost.
